National wetlands expert gives a big thumbs up to "Paving Paradise"
There are few people across the U.S. who are as knowledgeable about wetlands protection as Jeanne Christie. She was a national program leader for a USDA wildlife program, a former section chief for EPA's wetlands division, and a 2007 winner of the National Wetlands Award for Education and Outreach.
Since 2001, she's been the executive director of the Association of State Wetland Managers, a nonprofit membership organization established in 1983 to promote and enhance protection and management of wetland resources.
Jeanne blogs for the ASWM under the title "The Compleat Wetlander," and her latest posting is a rave review for "Paving Paradise."
She calls our book "a great read" and says that we've "crafted a newsy, story-filled account of the evolution of wetland policy nationally and its application in Florida...They have expertly lined up a string of stories that each build on the one before it to provide a bird’s eye view of how wetland policy evolved to be what it is today."
Christie also says that "what makes this book worthwhile for wetland professionals is there
is nothing else like it."
She also notes that in our final chapter, "the authors provide some recommendations on how to
improve federal and state programs. What’s illuminating is that this is not a long list and it is very doable."
We couldn't have asked for a better qualified person to review our book -- or for a more glowing review.
